About
In 1974, a group of tennis players in Brattleboro, who could no longer go six months without lifting their racquets and facing off across the net, conceived, designed, and built an indoor club to keep them connected to the game and to each other throughout the year, no matter the snow, sleet, or freezing rain. Today, we remain in their debt and do our best to keep the spirit and the club moving forward, both at the present moment and into the future.
Take a look around the website, at least to see what our facilities are like, and perhaps you’ll get a bit of an impression of what it’s like to play at the club. In this, I refer to the spirit mentioned above, which to us is as important as the walls, roof, and court surface. Camaraderie, enjoyment, and respect are the words that come to mind in thinking about how we relate to the club and to each other. So far, over 45 years into our shared enterprise, things seem to be going very well.
From a physical standpoint, the club consists of two hard courts with an up-to-date Plexicushion surface, LED lighting, changing rooms, bathrooms, and showers, and an upstairs social space and viewing gallery. None of it is fancy, all of it is functional and in good shape.
For instruction, we are very fortunate to have our Tennis Director, Jacob Miller, an exceptionally talented player and teacher. We’re also lucky to have Rick Foley offering four workout clinics per week, focusing on doubles technique and tactics. We have a Playmate Deuce programmable ball machine for use by individuals or groups to permit structured practice between lessons.
Twice weekly we have organized doubles play, with the courts reserved in advance. Seasonally, Jacob offers youth development clinics in the evenings twice a week, and we also squeeze in some hitting time for local high school teams when their spring seasons begin. On an occasional, ad hoc basis, members create social events involving tennis and inevitably food, and occasionally a refreshing beverage will show up as well.
If you think this sort of thing may be to your liking, consult our membership page to explore the various options for membership. If you’d like further information, please go to our contact page and get in touch with the club president, our clerk, or a member of our Board of Directors. Whether you’re already a member or are just curious about what goes on in our big orange building, we most assuredly want to hear your thoughts, suggestions, and questions.
Happy hitting everyone. See you on the courts!
